India has recorded 42,766 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's Saturday update. The death toll again surged above 1000 mark and was reported at 1.206, the Ministry added. India saw its peak of coronavirus in April and May this year but continued with the constant decline in the month of June. This is the 32nd consecutive day when India reported less than one lakh new coronavirus cases.
India's active caseload of COVID-19 cases have also seen a declining trend as daily cases continue to outnumber recoveries. The country's death toll currently stands at 4,55,033. The active cases constitute 1.48 per cent of the total cases. The cumulative fatalities in the country due to viral infection reached 4,07,145.
The weekly positivity rate also remained below 5 per cent and is currently at 2.34 per cent. Further, the daily positivity rate is at 2.19 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 19 consecutive days.
The cumulative total samples tested up to July 9 are 42,90,41,970 including 19,55,225 samples tested yesterday, according to the update of Indian Council of Medical Research.
The Ministry said that a total of 37,21,96,268 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 30,55,802 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 185.9 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4 million and vaccinations soared to over 3.38 billion.
