New Delhi: India saw much relief on covid front as after a week, the country finally saw downward trend in daily number of cases. The number of daily infection came down by at least 3,600 cases as the country reported 10,584 new cases in the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The new development took the overall number of cases to 1,10,16,434, the Health Ministry officials said. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that there were 78 more deaths, taking the overall toll to 1,56,463.

For the past few months, India has managed to report below 15,000 cases in a single day. Meanwhile, the daily death toll has also not breached 200 mark in past few days.

The increase in new cases can be credited to newly found mutations and strains that have been reported in the past few weeks.

At least 86.3 per cent of the new cases are from five states — Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab. Five states account for 78.31 per cent of the new deaths including Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
