Delhi Covid case positivity rate drops below 20%

Delhi reported 319 coronavirus-related deaths and 12,651 new infections on Monday, with a positivity rate of 19.10%, the health department said.

At 19.10%, the city’s COVID-19 positivity rate is at its lowest since April 16, according to a health bulletin issued by the Delhi government.

On Sunday, the daily death toll had fallen to 273. However, it went back up to 319 on Monday.

So far, total 19,663 people have died of Covid-19 in the national capital.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 1.33 million Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Delhi, of which 1.23 million have recovered and 19,663 have died, government records said.

The national capital currently has 85,258 active cases of Covid-19. As per the government data, released on Monday afternoon, there were 3229 vacant Covid beds at various hospitals, 4902 beds at Covid care centres and 111 beds at dedicated Covid health centres. At least 52451 people were in home isolation.

In the last 24 hours, Delhi conducted 57,265 RTPCR tests and 8969 rapid antigen tests.

Earlier in the day, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said Delhi has only one day’s Covaxin stock left and its Covishield doses will last for just three to four days. The minister’s remarks came as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Centre to direct manufacturers to increase vaccine supplies to the capital between May and July. At a press conference in the evening, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia accused the Centre of ‘interfering with the vaccine orders with the manufacturers’.

“We had placed an order for over 1cr vaccines from the manufacturers…but the Centre ordered that Delhi will get only 3.5lakh doses for the month of May,” he alleged.
