Delhi News: The Delhi Government has announced the launch of ANMOL (Advanced Newborn Monitoring for Optimal Lifecare) scheme.

The scheme is focused on providing screening tests for metabolic and genetic disorders in both private as well as public hospitals, free of cost.

Delhi News-Scheme Inclusions

Under the scheme, 56 types of tests would be conducted via a single blood drop from new-borns, enabling timely intervention and early detection.

Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Group Medical Director, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute and Action Cancer Hospital, Delhi, remarked diagnosed cases are increasing continuously. The scheme would help in proactively driving early detection and identify critical cases at the earliest. It would also help infants reach hospitals within the ‘golden hour.’

Dr Sanjay K Jain, HOD, Paediatrics and Neonatology and Medical Director, Maccure Hospital Pvt Ltd, remarked that the ANMOL scheme would have a considerable impact on rare health conditions. Jain remarked we expect a considerable surge in identified cases of inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs) as well as a range of rare conditions that were somewhat getting lost in the statistics of ‘unexplained infant mortality’. Jain commented that advanced tests in the capital city could cost anywhere between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 1 lakh with treatment ranging from Rs. 50,000 to over Rs. 10 lakh per year.

Dr Seema Thakur, Senior Consultant – Genetic and Fetal Medicine, Rainbow Hospital, Delhi, remarked that the scheme would help in detecting health complications at the earliest that would improve medical outcomes.
