Delhi Pollution: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj thanked Union Transport & Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari for acknowledging that the air of Delhi is indeed polluted.

What Did Nitin Gadkari Said About Delhi Pollution?

Addressing a gathering at the launch of veteran journalist Uday Mahurkar’s book, ‘My Idea of Nation First: Redefining Unalloyed Nationalism’, Gadkari expressed serious concerns over the worsening air pollution in Delhi.

Gadkari said he end up getting infections if he stays in Delhi for just two days. He further asked the reason behind why Delhi and its citizens are suffering so much from air pollution. Gadkari then acknowledged that the transport sector accounts for nearly 40 percent of emissions.

The Union Minister then questioned the heavy dependence of India on fossil fuel imports. He called for greater self-reliance in alternatives and bio-fuels, arguing that increasing exports and reducing imports is true nationalism.

The Minister gave the example of Brazil that has been using ethanol-blended fuel since 1949. He added the country has been able to cut its oil imports by nearly 70% without harming vehicles.

Presently, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced all measures under GRAP Stage-IV across the Delhi-NCR region.
