Depression Cure: Actor Vijay Varma has opened up about one of the toughest phases of his life. In a candid chat with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, the actor revealed that he battled severe depression and anxiety. He shared how Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan supported him through that time and how yoga and therapy helped him heal.

Vijay Varma Opens Up About His Struggle

Vijay recalled a time when his fast-paced work life took a toll on him. He said, “I was all alone in an apartment in Mumbai. Luckily, I had a small terrace. So, I could see the sky, be with the elements. Otherwise, I would’ve gone mad. Actually, I did.” The actor revealed that work pressure and loneliness made him feel “very lonely, very afraid,” to the point where even moving from his couch became hard.

He said the sudden pause in his life forced him to face his emotions. He shared, “What happened to me is that pause, that constant running after work, the byproduct is that you become so lonely.”

Vijay shared that Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, played a key role in helping him during his difficult phase. Ira, who actively promotes mental health awareness, supported his depression cure along with actor Gulshan Devaiah. The three became close friends while working on Dahaad, where Ira was an assistant director.

They often stayed connected through video calls and virtual dinners. When Vijay’s condition began to worsen, Ira encouraged him to start moving and join her online workout sessions. With her support, he began practising yoga and later took professional help through therapy. That’s when he realised he was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.

Vijay said that practising yoga, especially surya namaskars, and regular therapy helped him get better.

Depression Cure: How You Can Cope With It

If you’re struggling with depression, remember that recovery takes time, and help is always available. As per NHS, here are some small steps that can make a big difference:

Stay in touch: Don’t isolate yourself. Talking to family or friends can lift your mood and make you feel supported.

Be active: Try to exercise regularly. Even a short daily walk can boost your mood and energy.

Face your fears: Avoiding things that make you anxious can make them harder to face later. Start small and take one step at a time.

Limit alcohol: Drinking may seem like an escape, but it often worsens depression. Find healthier ways to cope.

Eat well: A healthy diet helps stabilise your mood and energy levels. Eat regular, balanced meals.

Stick to a routine: Depression can affect your sleep and daily habits. Try waking up, eating, and sleeping at the same time each day.

If you’ve been feeling low for more than two weeks, it’s time to reach out for help. Talking therapies and, in some cases, medication can support recovery.

No one should go through depression alone. Seeking help is the first step toward healing.
