More than four lakh people across the globe have suffered COVID(Coronavirus Disease) related fatalities, the World Health Orgainazation said on Friday. “The world is at a perilous point in this pandemic,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, calling the grim figure an underestimate of the true toll, while highlighting that rich countries have already gone back to the normal world, while those with lack of resources continue to suffer.
The WHO chief reprimanded rich countries for hoarding vaccines and accused them of behaving as if they have already defeated the deadly pandemic.
“The world is at a perilous point in the #COVID19 pandemic. We have just passed the tragic milestone of 4 million recorded deaths, which likely underestimates the overall toll. It didn’t have to be this way and it doesn’t have to be this way going forward. #VaccinEquity,” he said in a Tweet.
Tedros renewed his plea for richer nations to share their resources and said, “From a moral, epidemiological or economic point of view, now is the time for the world to come together to tackle this pandemic collectively.”
Many countries have started tourism after mass vaccination. However, there are many rich countries that have still imposed lockdown and are currently in fear of the new Delta Plus variant.
