High Blood Pressure Can Kill You Slowly – Expert Shares 9 Life-Saving Tips, Check

High blood pressure is a silent threat affecting two out of three adults in India. Learn how to measure it correctly and follow nine lifestyle tips to manage it effectively.

Did you know that nearly two out of three adults in India have high blood pressure and most of them don’t even know it? Often called the “silent killer,” high blood pressure can quietly cause serious health problems without showing obvious symptoms. Many people don’t check it correctly, which means they might be at risk without realising it.

Health educator Prashant Desai from Stanford School of Medicine recently shared a video explaining the dangers of high BP and how to manage it. According to him, high blood pressure can increase the risk of strokes, kidney problems and sexual health issues. The good news is that it’s measurable and manageable if you know what to do.

What Is Blood Pressure?

It is the force your blood puts on your arteries as it flows through your body. It’s measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and has two numbers: systolic (when your heart pumps) and diastolic (when your heart relaxes). Normal BP is around 120/80 mmHg. Anything higher can be risky, while very low BP (hypotension) can also be a concern if it causes dizziness or fatigue.

Accurate measurement is key. Always sit quietly for five minutes, keep your arm at heart level and use the correct cuff size. Take at least two readings and average them. Regular home monitoring can give you control and awareness of your health.

9 Practical Ways to Lower Blood Pressure

Prashant Desai shared nine lifestyle factors that can help manage and reduce BP naturally:

Weight management – Carrying extra weight strains your arteries.

Diet – Balance sodium and potassium; avoid extreme low-salt diets unless necessary.

Exercise – Regular physical activity keeps your blood vessels healthy.

Alcohol moderation – Too much alcohol can spike blood pressure.

Sleep – Less than seven hours of quality sleep increases risk.

Stress control – Chronic stress triggers hormones that raise pressure.

Caffeine moderation – Excess coffee, tea, or energy drinks can elevate readings.

Insulin resistance management – Cut down on sugars and refined carbs.

Medication when necessary – Always follow your doctor’s prescription.

Take Control Of Your Health

High blood pressure is not something to ignore. By monitoring it, adjusting your lifestyle and consulting a doctor if needed, you can take control and reduce risks. Invest in a good home blood pressure monitor, track readings regularly, and take action early. Don’t let this silent threat affect your life or your family.
