High Triglycerides: These days, many of us indulge in midnight snacks and sugary breakfasts. Add to that your morning glass of juice, white toast, or sugary cereals, and you’re fuelling a lipid crisis. However, these foods are significantly high on triglycerides, the most common fats in the blood.
In a video shared on Instagram, nutritionist Dr. Shweta Nagar shares her expert opinions on triglycerides and actionable tips to keep them under control.
The Trap Of High Triglycerides
Triglycerides could be described as fats in the blood that get stored as energy as and when you consume more calories than you burn. Normal levels of triglycerides are under 150 mg/dL and anything about 200 mg/dL raises red flags for severe health conditions such as stroke, heart disease and pancreatitis.

Late-Night Eating
Many of us have a habit of grabbing a quick paratha, biryani or leftovers while binge-watching our favourite Bollywood, Tollywood, English or Korean entertainment choices. However, nocturnal eating could elevate triglycerides because insulin sensitivity drops at night. Surprisingly, even “healthy” late snacks like fruit or yogurt can backfire if they’re heavy on carbohydrates.
Actionable Tips: Say No To Triglyceride Triggers
Ideally, you should consume your dinner by 7 pm. If you feel hungry after this time, you could sip black coffee or herbal tea. You may choose eggs with veggies, besan chila or nuts for your breakfast but make sure to avoid anything liquid-sweet or refined. You can snack smart with midday almonds or yogurt to curb cravings without spikes.
It is also advised that you lead an active lifestyle and stay away from alcohol and nicotine. Ideally, you should engage yourself in 30 minutes of yoga every day and consume omega-3s from fish or flaxseed.
