High Uric Acid Warning: AIIMS Doctor Reveals 7 Foods You Must Stop Eating Now Or Risk Gout, Kidney Stones And Arthritis

High uric acid is becoming a silent problem in many households. If ignored, it can lead to painful conditions like gout, kidney stones and arthritis-like issues. Recently, AIIMS doctor Priyanka Sehrawat shared some crucial advice on managing uric acid levels naturally. Understanding what increases uric acid and what helps lower it can make a huge difference to your health.

High Uric Acid: Myths About Protein And Purines

Many people believe that eating a high-protein diet automatically raises uric acid. However, Dr Sehrawat clarified in her latest Instagram video that this is not true. She said, “A high-protein diet does not increase uric acid. Purines, which are found in proteins, help in metabolism and maintaining energy levels.”

While proteins and purines are essential for energy and cell function, excessive uric acid in the body can be dangerous. It can cause kidney stones, joint inflammation and gout. Swelling often occurs in the joints, especially the big toe, causing severe pain. Therefore, managing uric acid becomes necessary once it starts forming.

Foods To Avoid And Include

According to Dr Sehrawat, certain foods can raise uric acid levels and should be avoided if you already have high uric acid. These include:

  • Red meat and processed meats
  • Alcohol, especially beer
  • Processed and packaged foods
  • Some lentils like toor dal (pigeon pea) and arhar dal

On the other hand, certain dietary choices can help control uric acid naturally. Vitamin C-rich foods are particularly helpful. Dr Sehrawat recommends including:

  • Amla (Indian gooseberry)
  • Mosambi (sweet lime)
  • Other citrus fruits

In addition to dietary changes, staying hydrated is critical. Drinking plenty of water helps flush uric acid from the body and reduces the risk of kidney stones. Of course, if you have heart or kidney conditions, consult a doctor before increasing water intake.

By avoiding uric acid-raising foods and focusing on natural remedies, you can manage your uric acid effectively and prevent complications. Awareness and small lifestyle changes go a long way in protecting your joints, kidneys and overall health.
