In her recent video, Shweta Shah explains that drinking water without the right minerals can leave your body feeling dehydrated. She said, “Just drinking water is not enough – electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium are essential for the body to absorb and utilise water effectively.”

Even if you drink plenty of water, you may still experience symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, or dry mouth.

According to Ayurveda and modern nutrition science, proper hydration depends on a balance of fluids and electrolytes. Water alone does not guarantee absorption at the cellular level. Your body needs electrolytes to help transport fluids into cells, maintain energy levels, and support overall bodily functions.

Simple Ways To Boost Hydration

Shweta Shah suggests practical solutions for better hydration. For people who exercise regularly (whether at the gym or in yoga sessions), adding a pinch of rock salt to each litre of water about 15 minutes before a workout can improve fluid absorption and energy. This small step helps maintain electrolyte balance and prevents dehydration during physical activity.

For those experiencing low energy or signs of dehydration, she recommends using oral rehydration solutions (ORS) or electrolyte sachets once a week. These products restore lost minerals, improve hydration, and can noticeably boost energy levels. Shweta also mentions infused water recipes, which combine water with minerals or herbs, as an additional way to support proper hydration naturally.

Proper hydration isn’t just about drinking litres of water. It’s about maintaining the right balance between fluids and electrolytes.
