Maharashtra, India’s worst-hit state by the deadly coronavirus disease (Covid-19), on Tuesday reported 895 deaths related to the coronavirus infection. Out of 895, 392 occurred in the past 48 hours, while 179 people had died last week due to the disease.
After dropping below 50,000 for one day, the daily covid tally in the state again rose past 60,000 after the state reported staggering 66,538 new cases in the last 24-hours.
Maharashtra now has over 6.72 lakh active Covid cases. The five districts to report the highest numbers of cases in the last 24 hours are Nashik (11,365 cases), Pune (9,078 cases), Nagpur (6,895 cases), Mumbai (4,014 cases) and Aurangabad (1,468 cases).
Since the onset of the pandemic, the state has tested 2,62,54,737 samples so far and of those 44,10,085 have been tested positive, taking the positivity rate to 16.80 per cent.
In a development, 67,752 people were discharged in the last 24-hour, taking the total to 36,69,548 now, and the recovery rate improved from 82.92 per cent on Monday to 83.21 per cent.
Meanwhile, the number of people sent to home isolation increased to 42,64,936 now, while those shunted to institutional quarantine went down to 30,146.
State capital and country’s financial Mumbai reported 4,014 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, a slight high than Monday. However, fatalities dropped to 59, the Civic body’s data said.
India is currently witnessing the worst surge of coronavirus cases as the second wave of the pandemic continues to wreak havoc. For the last six days, the country has reported over 300,000 cases, which is the world high record at this moment.
