Male Fertility: It may come as a surprise to you but the type of underwear you wear plays an important role in sperm health.

In a recently shared video on Instagram, eminent health coach Miruna Bashkar shares tips on how you could improve sperm health, count and motility by choosing the right underwear.

Male Fertility-Understanding Sperm Health

Before we proceed into how to choose the best underwear for sperm health, let us first understand the three key factors that are commonly assessed.

  • Sperm Count: The number of sperms present in male semen.
  • Sperm Motility: The ability of sperms to move efficiently.
  • Sperm Morphology: The structure and shape of sperms.

For optimal male fertility, all three factors need to be in a healthy range. Interestingly, temperature plays a vital role as the production of sperms requires a slightly cooler temperature than normal body heat.

Why Fabric Choice Matters?

Sperm Production thrives in a well-ventilated and cooler environment. Therefore, any underwear material that disrupts this balance is NOT the right choice for you.

Side Effects of Polyester Underpants

A synthetic fabric, polyester is commonly used in clothing because of its durability and affordability. However, it may not be the best choice when it comes to male reproductive health.

  • Polyester tends to trap heat and does not facilitate proper air circulation, raising the temperature around the scrotum causing reduced sperm count and production over time.
  • Polyester fails to absorb moisture well, resulting in a humid and warm environment that is not ideal for sperm health.
  • Tight polyester underwear could reduce sperm motility by prolonging exposure to heat and poor airflow.

Benefits Of Silk And Natural Cotton Boxers

Ideally, you should switch to natural and breathable fabrics such as silk or cotton for better reproductive health.

  • Cotton and silk are excellent to maintain a balanced temperature as they allow heat to escape instead of trapping it, keeping the scrotum cool.
  • They reduce moisture buildup and create a healthier environment for the testes.
  • Loose-fitting silk or cotton boxers help in keeping the testes away from the body. This helps in preventing overheating and positively influencing sperm count, health and motility over time.

Male fertility may be a complex topic, but sometimes small lifestyle changes can make a big difference.
