Nail Polish Side Effects: Girls and women of all age love nail polishes and nail extensions. After all, nail beauty is something that is not exclusive or restricted to a few. However, this harmless glamour may hide a cocktail of toxic chemicals that can slowly seep into the skin, bloodstreams and lungs.
Nail Extensions And Nail Polish Side Effects At A Glance
Almost every single nail polish available today include (with the exception of a very few) Formaldehyde, toluene or phthalates. These toxins are known carcinogens, hormone disruptors and neurotoxins linked to severe health conditions such as infertility, cancer and developmental issues.
While gel nail polishes add ultraviolet radiation risks, acrylic nail extensions deliver Methyl methacrylate (MMA), which is infamous across the world for causing permanent nail damage and life-threatening allergies.
Health Impacts: Short and Long Term
Short-term effects include eye irritation, skin rashes or nausea. Long-term? Harmful chemicals in nail polishes can lead to endocrine disruption that mimics estrogen. This can contribute to thyroid disorders, infertility and breast cancer in acute cases. On the other hand, nail extensions weaken natural nails, causing infections, brittleness and permanent loss.
What to do?
- Choose “5-Free” or “10-Free” Polishes from reputed brands.
- Use vitamin E, shea butter and Jojoba oil for strengthening nails naturally.
- Remove nail polish with non-acetone removers.
