The civil court in Maharashtra has issued notice to the Serum Institute of India on the suit against the use of the name ‘COVISHIELD’ for the proposed vaccine.
The civil suit was filed by a Nanded-based pharmaceutical company “Cutis Biotech” which claimed to be the “lawful and prior user” of the tradename “COVISHIELD”
The plaintiff, Cutis Biotech claimed that they filed an application for registration of COVISHIELD’s trademark in its name on 29th of April this year.
According to the charges, the Serum Institute of India has filed an application for tradenames ‘COVISHIELD’ and ‘COVIDSHIELD’ in June, and in the month of July, Cutis Biotech raised an objection on the trademark.
