Obesity: Can Extra Kilos Steal Your Sleep? Experts Reveal 5 Game-Changing Tips!

Obesity: Today, stress from work, financial instability and strained relationships are some of the biggest reasons behind sleep disorders.

Obesity: There is no denying the fact that obesity today is no longer just a distant health concern. It is a gradually escalating global health crisis that is pushing millions toward chronic diseases, poor quality of life and ultimately, to hospital beds. Two of the most underestimated factors that sabotage progress are sleep and obesity.

Obesity-Factors Behind Lack Of Sleep

Today, stress from work, financial instability and strained relationships are some of the biggest reasons behind sleep disorders. Add to that excessive screen time from televisions, OTTs and smartphones, and what we end up seeing is a widespread erosion of both sleep quantity and quality. However, most of us end up forgetting that your sleep and body weight are related.

5 Game-Changing Tips to Reverse the Trend

Addressing obesity requires a holistic approach and optimizing sleep is a critical component.

1. Prioritize Sleep as a Non-Negotiable: Aim for at least 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. You must always treat sleep with the same importance as your exercise and nutrition.

2. Establish a Consistent Sleep Schedule: Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day helps in regulating your body’s circadian rhythm. This would help you fall asleep faster and improve sleep quality.

3. Reduce Screen Exposure Before Bedtime: Limit the use of laptops, mobile phones, smartphones and televisions at least 60-90 minutes before your bedtime. This would help in improving the production of melatonin (the sleep hormone).

4. Manage Stress Proactively: Incorporate stress-management techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or journaling into your daily routine.

5. Optimize Your Sleep Environment: Create a dark, quiet, and cool sleeping space. Furthermore, do make a serious effort to invest in a comfortable mattress and eliminate distractions that may interrupt your sleep cycle.
