Palm Oil: Big Warning! Are You Inadvertently Feeding Your Kids With Palm Oil Infused Frozen Desserts In The Name Of Ice Creams?

Palm Oil: Palm Oil is often used the manufacturers of frozen desserts like popsicles, ice cream cones and ice creams as it is inexpensive, stable and mimic creaminess without refrigeration issues.

Palm Oil: Do you as a parent grab that colourful tub of the so-called “ice cream” for your little ones every time they visit the ice cream shop? Health coach Miruna Bashkar has issued a strict warning to many popular frozen desserts that are often marketed as kid-friendly ice creams but loaded with harmful palm oil. This sneaky ingredient in frozen desserts could pose serious health risk, especially in young children and adolescents whose bodies are still developing.

The Hidden Dangers Of Palm Oil In Everyday Treats

Palm Oil is often used the manufacturers of frozen desserts like popsicles, ice cream cones and ice creams as it is inexpensive, stable and mimic creaminess without refrigeration issues. Brands often use partially hydrogenated palm oil or fractions like palm olein, listing them as “vegetable oil.”

The high saturated fat content of palm oil, especially palmitic acid, could significantly raise the levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. This could possibly set up your kids for early heart risks such as stroke. Several studies on infant formulas have revealed that palm oil could reduce the absorption of calcium, which can result in poor bone mineralization and even growth delays in children.

Palm Oil could even form hard calcium soaps in the human gut, resulting in softer bones, constipation and nutrient loss. Chronic consumption of palm oil could trigger inflammation via excess omega-6 fatty acids, which could increase the risk of obesity and insulin resistance.

How To Spot The Sneaky Labels?

Check for ingredients such as “palm oil,” “palm kernel,” “palm olein,” or “vegetable fat.” Always insist on buying ice creams and not frozen desserts. Remember, even “100% vegetable oil” often means palm-derived. Ideally, you should buy and consume only “palm oil-free” or natural dairy-based ones.
