The Paleo Diet – pros and cons, all you must know before taking a plunge

Paleo Diet: The paleo diet aims to replicate the hunter-gatherer diet that our ancestors followed thousands of years ago. Researchers believe that although it is impossible to know exactly what human predecessors consumed in various regions of the world, their diets likely included complete foods.

The likelihood is that hunter-gatherers had considerably lower incidence of lifestyle diseases like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease because they lived physically busy lives and ate whole foods. In reality, a number of studies indicate that following this diet can result in significant weight loss (without calorie counting) and significant health advantages. Anthropologists think that the paleo diet may have contributed to human anatomical and physiological changes, such as a growth in brain size and a shrinkage of the gastrointestinal tract.)

Paleo Diet Meal

Depending on what was available at the time and where they lived, Paleolithic humans prospered on a variety of diets. While some people followed a high-animal, low-carb diet, others consumed a lot of plant-based carbohydrates. Some even consumed insects, but thankfully the contemporary version of the paleo diet excludes this delicacy. Meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, and healthy fats and oils are all permitted on the paleo diet. Processed meals, sugar, soft drinks, artificial sweeteners, and trans fats should all be avoided. Limit your intake of cereals, the majority of dairy products, and legumes.

Foods to avoid

  • Legumes: Lentils and Beans
  • Dairy: Butter and Cheese
  • Sugar and high-fructose corn syrup: Candy, Fruit Juice, Soft Drinks and Ice Creams
  • Grains: Pastas, Wheat and Breads
  • Vegetable Oils: Corn Oil, Safflower Oil and Sunflower Oil and many more

Foods to eat

  • Eggs: Free-range, pastured, or omega-3 enriched
  • Fruits: Orange, Avocados, Banana, Apples and more
  • Vegetables: Onions, Carrot, Broccoli and more
  • Salt and Spices: Turmeric, Garlic and Sea Salt
  • Meat: Beef, Turkey, Chicken etc
