Vaping and Health: For many years, vaping has been marketed as an amicable choice to replace harmful cigarettes and other forms of nicotine. This is one of the biggest reasons why there was a massive surge in the count of users of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) in recent times. However, many health experts believe that vaping simply opens the door to another form of dependency instead of a stepping stone toward freedom from nicotine addiction.

Vaping and Health-The Pros Considered by Prospective Vapers
Among the most popular reasons cited by prospective vapers, the following are the most common:
- Switching to vaping would reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals and reduce the risk of smoking-related diseases.
- Vaping is often seen as a more socially acceptable option than smoking in certain settings. Moreover, the absence of ash, cigarette butts and smoke odour may appeal to some.
- The ability to gradually taper the strength of nicotine provides smokers with a sense of control and authority over their addiction, which may be psychologically motivating.
Side Effects And Health Concerns
The side effects of vaping may vary from mild to severe. Short-term side effects include mouth and throat irritation, nausea, dizziness and coughing. Some users may experience increased blood pressure and heart rate following nicotine inhalation.

In rare cases, vaping may result in severe respiratory distress and the condition known as EVALI (e-cigarette or vaping-associated lung injury), which is primarily associated with certain unregulated vaping products.
The Risk of Dual Addiction
This may come as a surprise to many for first-time vaping users but people often end up vaping as well as smoking. Instead of serving as a bridge to complete cessation, vaping may sometimes perpetuate nicotine addiction. Dual users (vaping and smoking users) may expose themselves to compounded health risks, as they continue inhaling harmful substances from cigarettes while also introducing new chemicals through vaping.
Vaping may be a stepping stone to freedom from cigarettes for some, but without careful oversight, it can just as easily become another form of dependency.
