Dr Rajesh Kapoor from Max Super Speciality Hospital shared an eye‑opening video on YouTube that challenges the idea that diet drinks help you lose weight. His message may make you rethink your beverage choices.

Why Diet Beverages May Hurt Your Weight Loss Goals

According to Dr Kapoor, the promise of diet drinks can be misleading for those trying to shed kilos. He explained, “If you think that drinking diet beverages will help with weight loss, that’s absolutely not true.” 

These drinks often use artificial sweeteners, which can trigger cravings for sugary foods later. Diet drinks can create a false sense that you haven’t really eaten, which may lead you to eat more snacks and desserts soon after. 

He added, “Artificial sweeteners and these beverages affect your gut bacteria, which play an important role in obesity and metabolism.”

For people dealing with obesity and related conditions like diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea, Dr Kapoor says simple diet changes and lifestyle efforts may not be enough. In such cases, metabolic surgery or weight loss surgery might be considered.

These points echo concerns from some nutrition researchers about how artificial sweeteners interact with appetite and gut health. For example, some studies suggest that artificial sweeteners may alter hunger signals in the brain and influence eating behaviour, potentially increasing sweet cravings.
