Happy Basant Panchami 2023: Here's how to perform Saraswati Puja

Basant Panchami 2023: According to the Panchang, the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Magh month has begun which calls for the celebration of Basant Panchami. On this auspicious occasion, mother Saraswati is worshiped to bring prosperity and harmony. The day is celebrated to pay respect to Saraswati also known as the Goddess of knowledge and devotees often worship books and pens. Additionally, educational institutions also hold cultural fest, to celebrate this festival. Some people also engage in healthy competition of kite flying.

Basant Panchami significance

Vasant Panchami is observed by Sikhs and Hindus as the beginning of the spring preparations. People commemorate it in a number of ways depending on the area. Additionally, Vasant Panchami marks the start of the forty-day countdown to Holika and Holi. The celebration known as Vasant Panchami is one that many people observe in remembrance of Saraswati, the deity of learning, music, and all the arts. She embodies a wide range of creative power and energy, including longing and love. The season and celebration also coincide with the ripening of the mustard crop, whose golden flowers Hindus associate with Saraswati's favourite shade of yellow. People give gifts and food that are yellow in colour while sporting yellow saris, blouses, or accessories.

How to perform Puja on Basant Panchami

After worshiping Maa Saraswati, light a fire with mango wood. In Havan, first of all remember Ganeshji with 'Om Gan Ganapataye Namah' Swaha Mantra and Navagraha with 'Om Navagraha Namah' Swaha Mantra. After this, with the mantra 'Om Saraswatayai Namah Swaha', put havya and ghee in the kund. Do this 108 times. At the end, wrap a mole on the coconut and apply ghee on it and offer full offering in the havan kund. Perform the Aarti of Goddess Saraswati, after that distribute Prasad by applying Tilak to the Bhabhut of the Havan.
