Sadhguru Tips: In a deeply spiritual discourse, Jaggi Vasudev, popularly known as Sadhguru, sheds light on a crucial yet often misunderstood question: Can you help someone after they die? According to Sadhguru, everything we know as life is essentially a form of memory. Our connection to the departed is more about the memories we hold, rather than their actual presence. This memory is not just stored in the mind but also within our body and surroundings. These remnants of memory form the basis of many rituals we observe after someone passes.
The Power of Memory
Sadhguru tips explain that memory plays a significant role even after a person’s death. He gives a simple analogy: just as a dog can track a person through the scent left behind, humans leave behind “puddles of memory” wherever they go. These traces are left in the clothes we wear, the places we sit, and even the ground we walk on. When a loved one dies, their memory can still affect the living and even prevent the departed soul from moving forward in its journey.
Karma Vastram and Tying Memory
In many spiritual practices, people tie cloth (karma vastram) on a tamarind tree outside a temple. This is done to release the memory of the departed from the living. Sadhguru explains that these clothes are a representation of the memories of the person who has passed. Tying them near places of spiritual energy, like a Shiva temple or the Dhyanalinga, helps dissolve these memories, allowing the soul to proceed without attachment.
Letting Go for Liberation
Sadhguru emphasises the importance of helping both the living and the dead by releasing these attachments. He explains that if memory is left unchecked, it may interfere with the liberation of the soul. This is why in many traditions, relatives gather to pay their last respects, not only to mourn but to release the memory of the deceased. This process of shedding attachment helps the soul transition peacefully.
