Sadhguru Tips: Positive thinking is frequently viewed as the best way to overcome obstacles in the modern world. But according to Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, focussing only on happy thoughts can be deceiving and can keep people from recognising reality. While the mind can direct the road, he emphasises in his advise that in order to truly succeed, one must actively walk the journey.
The Illusion of Positive Thinking
Sadhguru begins by highlighting how positive thinking, though popular, can often destroy possibilities. It gives people a false sense of security by creating mental scenarios that feel comforting but do little to help in real life. He compares this attitude to a humorous poem where a bird drops something unpleasant on a person, yet they choose to ignore it and thank God that buffaloes don’t fly. This metaphor illustrates that simply thinking positively without addressing reality does not solve problems.
The Mind Paves the Way, But You Must Walk It
According to Sadhguru, while the mind can set the direction for our goals, it cannot take us there. Positive thinking is a tool to imagine the future, but it’s up to the individual to act and walk the path. He explains that people often confuse mental concepts like thoughts of enlightenment, success, or happiness as reality, when in truth, they are just mental blueprints. For real change, action is required, not just thoughts.
Thought vs Existence
When asked if thought is important, Sadhguru emphasises that existence comes before thought. By arguing that we think because we exist, he refutes the widely held notion that “I think, therefore I am.” According to Sadhguru, thinking too much about ideas is detrimental because they make up a little portion of existence. He serves as a reminder that the power of existence itself surpasses all mental processes.
