Waking up in the morning, opening your smartphone’s screen, and boom, you have spent 30 minutes in the blink of an eye!! Sounds relatable? Well, not just you, but almost every youth and elder is relating to this. What comes next? A waste of time, energy, stress, and a possible headache for the rest of the day! Yes, this toxic cycle will go on if you don’t note the tips to break through it.

Doctor Priyanka Sehrawat Warns You Against Moring and Evening Scrolling

The neurologist and MD of medicines in AIIMS Delhi, Dr. Priyanka Sehrawat, now widely criticises this mobile scrolling behaviour. She notes that almost everyone today starts their day by scrolling through their mobile screens. This is not just unproductive, but it leaves a long-term impact on your body and mind.

Scrolling on mobile phones in the morning hampers your work efficiency and work planning for the entire day. This single unhealthy behaviour reduces your productivity and leaves you anxious at the end of the day. She also notes that more than 90% of patients she diagnoses with migraine and headache have early and late-night screen times.

What Problems Occur When You Watch Mobiles in the Morning and Evening?

Here’s how using your smartphone during the early morning or the late evening can negatively affect your health.

Exposure to blue light can interfere with melatonin production in your body. This will make it more difficult for you to fall asleep and rest properly.

  • When you check e-mails, read news articles, or look through social media updates, you are naturally elevating your stress hormones.
  • When you use your phone in the morning, your eyes struggle to adjust to the brightness of the screen. This strained the eyes, causing headaches.
  • Your mind will fill with unnecessary clutter, and you cannot think clearly.
  • Watching other people’s accomplishments and negative situations can cause you to feel inferior, anxious, and/or overwhelmed.

What Else Can You Do Instead of scrolling on your Mobile phone?

If you want to use the phone less often before you go to bed, experts have provided recommendations for healthier alternatives:

  • Drink a glass of water or stretch out.
  • Take five minutes to practice gratitude or meditative exercises.
  • Read an actual book before going to sleep.
  • Walk for five minutes each morning before getting out of bed.
  • Use a journal to write down your thoughts rather than relying on the internet.
  • Play calming music or listen to podcasts without any distractions from the screen.

So, it is basically up to you whether you want a productive day, or a day with stress, anxiety and headaches. Avoid scrolling your mobile phone in the morning and before you go to sleep. This single change will make your life much better.
