The Meenakshi Amman Temple, dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar, is famous in the city. The temple’s intricately carved sculptures, the tall gopuram gateway towers and vibrant festivities during Meenakshi Thirukalyanam make this a must see tourist destination.
Orchha, Madhya Pradesh
Orchha is a forgotten gem for temple enthusiasts, located on the banks of Betwa River in Madhya Pradesh. There are many wonderful temples in the city including Chaturbhuj Temple, Ram Raja Shrine and Laxmi Narayan temple; but it’s also home to excellent medieval architecture. These magnificent structures, adorned with precious frescoes and sculptures, carry visitors back in time.
Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu
Kanchipuram is one of the most significant pilgrimage centres in Tamil Nadu, referred to as ‘the City of Thousand Temples.’ It has a reputation for its ancient Temples dedicated to all of the gods, in particular Lord Vishnu and Goddess Shakti. The most sacred temples in this temple town are the Kaileasanathar, Ekambareswarar or Kamakshi Amman Temples which attract an enormous number of pilgrims.
Belur, Karnataka
Belur, a little known temple town in Karnataka, has more than its fair share of amazing and underappreciated temples. Among them is the Chennakesava Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which is a testament to the architectural excellence of the Hoysala Dynasty. Its intricate carving, delicately made sculptures and detailed craftsmanship are attracting visitors to this temple. Also, the Ganesh temple in Modhera is a famous destination of Lord Ganesha’s followers and has been highlighted by its impressive craftsmanship. Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu
