10 Kashmiri Pandit families flee valley due to recent targeted killing

In view of the increasing targeted attacks by terrorists, 10 Kashmiri Pandit families in South Kashmir’s Shopian district have left their homes. Kashmiri Pandits have left their homes due to fear and tension and have come to Jammu.

It is noteworthy that the incidents of attacks by terrorists targeting Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir have increased significantly in recent times. Residents of Choudharygund said that the recent escalation of terrorist attacks has created an atmosphere of tension and fear in the community. These people have been living in Kashmir since the 1990s, but they never left their homes in difficult times.

Kashmiri Pandit Puran Krishna Bhat was shot dead by terrorists outside his ancestral home in Chaudharygund village of Shopian district on October 15. At the same time, Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar were killed in a grenade attack by terrorists in Shopian district on October 18. A resident of Choudharygund told PTI, “10 Kashmiri Pandit families that is 35 to 40 people from the community have left the village due to fear and tension.”

The situation in the valley is not suitable for us – villagers

Another villager said, “The situation in the Kashmir Valley is no longer fit for us to live in. We are living in fear because of the continuous killings. No security arrangements have been made for us.The villagers alleged that a police post has been set up far away from their village despite repeated requests to provide security.’

Villagers said that they has left everything in their homes including the apple crop. These people who reached Jammu are currently living with their relatives.
