On March 1, 2025, PM Modi penned a letter to Sunita Williams, acknowledging her courage and resilience. Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister in PMO, shared the letter on social media, stating, “As the world awaits her safe return, this is how PM Modi expressed his concern for this daughter of India.”
In the letter, PM Modi wrote, “Even though you are thousands of miles away, you remain close to our hearts. The people of India are praying for your good health and success in your mission.” His words highlighted the immense pride India feels for Sunita Williams’ achievements.
PM Modi’s Longstanding Admiration for Sunita Williams
The Prime Minister also recalled his previous meetings with US Presidents, where he inquired about Sunita Williams’ well-being. He mentioned his personal interaction with her during his 2016 visit to the United States, underscoring his admiration for her dedication to space exploration.
A Warm Invitation for Sunita Williams’ Visit to India
In his letter, PM Modi extended a warm invitation to Sunita Williams to visit India after her return. “It will be a pleasure for India to host one of its most illustrious daughters,” he wrote, expressing the nation’s eagerness to welcome her home.
Dr Jitendra Singh also shared that PM Modi personally requested former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino to ensure the letter reached Sunita Williams. Moved by the gesture, she expressed her gratitude towards PM Modi and the people of India for their support.
