2 LeT terrorists escape police custody in Kashmir, caught by police again in 12 hours

The two ‘hybrid’ terrorists were caught by the security forces within 12 hours of their escape from police custody in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday. The CCTV footage of him running away from the Baramulla police station also came to the fore. These two terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), involved in a bomb blast at a liquor shop in Baramulla, escaped from police custody on Wednesday morning. The two terrorists, identified as Maroof Nazir Soleh and Shahid Shaukat Bala, were in police custody since May 2022.

Both the terrorist organizations were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. A massive cordon and search operation was launched by the police in Baramulla and other parts of North Kashmir to nab the two hybrid terrorists. Both the terrorists were involved in the bomb blast at a liquor shop in Baramulla last year.

A police official told news agency PTI, “The two accused, who were in custody at the Baramulla police station, fled during ‘sehri’ (pre-dawn meal) this morning.” A case has been registered under relevant sections and search is on for both the terrorists.

‘Hybrid’ terrorists are not actually notified as terrorists, but are sympathetic to terrorist designs and are sufficiently trained to carry out targeted attacks as assigned by their handlers. After committing a terrorist act, they lead a normal life and wait for the next job.
