25-year-old man stabbed to death allegedly by known people

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by a man known to him and his three friends following an argument at a birthday party in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri late on Wednesday night.

Police have arrested all the four men for murder.

The family of the deseased claimed that Rinku had a dispute with one Nasruddin, who lived in the neighbourhood, over some religious remarks a few days ago. On Wednesday night, Nasruddin and three others forced their way inside the house and stabbed Rinku in the back, they claimed.

Both the victim and the accused had an argument over their eatery business which had to be shut down after they started incurring losses, police, said, adding that these facts are being verified.

Investigators identified the victim as one Rinku Sharma, who worked as a technician at a private hospital and lived with his family in Mangolpuri.

“All the four men have been arrested and a case has been registered against them,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sudhanshu Dhama told PTI.

On Friday morning, the police tweeted details about the incident and specifically mentioned that any other motive alluded to it was “factually wrong”. The police debunked theories with inauthentic narrative.

The police’s statement came after Hindutva outfit Vishva Hindu Parishad claimed that Sharma was killed for collecting funds in the donation drive for the Ram temple in Ayodhya, reported The Indian Express. On Friday morning, at least three topics – “रिंकू शर्मा”, “Bajrang Dal” and “Ram Mandir” – were among the top 20 trends on Twitter in India, as several Hindutva activists peddled the distorted version. Videos were also shared with incorrect facts.

Speaking to India Today, Rinku’s mother said, “I couldn’t save him. He was the only earning member of the family.” A huge crowd had gathered at Mangolpuri polcice station following the incident and cops have been placed on alert to avoid any flare up.

The VHP, in a statement, claimed Rinku was killed as he was collecting donations for Ram Mandir. “The administration
…should ensure strictest punishment to the culprits,” said VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain.
