In a major move to improve India's rail network, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the manufacturing of 2,500 new general passenger train coaches, with clearance for an additional 10,000 coaches. While talking to ANI, Vaishnaw underlined the need for ongoing efforts to raise the standard of cleanliness, safety, and service in railway operations.

Massive Expansion and New Coaches

The minister disclosed that a particular drive is being used to manufacture 2,500 new ordinary coaches. In addition, the sanctioning of 10,000 additional general coaches is intended to accommodate the growing demand. Indian Railways ran more than 10,000 special trains this summer to accommodate the high passenger demand.

Focus on Service, Safety, and Cleanliness

Vaishnaw emphasised a strong focus on improving services, safety, and cleanliness across the railway network. The manufacturing of 50 more Amrit Bharat trains has started, and the process for 150 additional Amrit Bharat trains is also underway. Last year, Indian Railways added 5,300 km of new tracks, and this year, more than 800 km of tracks have already been added.

Introduction of Amrit Bharat Trains

The Prime Minister recently flagged off two new Amrit Bharat trains: the Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Amrit Bharat Express and the Malda Town-Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminus (Bengaluru) Amrit Bharat Express. These LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) push-pull trains, equipped with locomotives at both ends, promise better acceleration and efficiency.

Rollout of Kavach System

Vaishnaw also emphasised the quick implementation of the Kavach system, which helps locomotive pilots steer clear of overspeeding and Signal Passing At Danger (SPAD). Since Kavach automatically applies brakes when appropriate, it ensures improved control over train speed and helps prevent accidents during unfavourable weather conditions like dense fog.
