3 boys of Assam held for robbing gold, diamonds worth Rs 1.5 in Chennai

Three migrant labourers, all teenagers, were arrested on Saturday for allegedly burgling a jewelery shop in the city’s suburbs and decamping with gold and diamonds worth Rs 1.5 crore. Selaiyur police nabbed the accused within three hours with the help of CCTV footage. Senior police officer.

Last night, the accused, hailing from Assam, allegedly climbed a pipe at the back of the building and reached the terrace, where they broke open the door to the lift and jumped over the lift cabin. They then broke open the fan door and entered the second floor of the building, police said.

“The boys used their shirts as masks and the other shirt to collect the jewellery. They tried to break open the locker, and this triggered Jagadeesan to raise the alarm,” the police said. All three allegedly fled the building through the same route.

Police said that the accused used to work at a juice shop nearby. He said the mastermind was 17 years old and had come to Chennai five months back. The police nabbed the boys from their house and recovered bundles of jewellery. The boys were sent to the Government Observation Home at Tambaram.
