A case was filed against Mohammed Zubair for allegedly threatening a girl on Twitter

Fact checker Mohammad Zubair, who is constantly surrounded by controversies, is now caught in a new problem. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Tuesday moved the Delhi High Court against Zubair. In the High Court, the NCPCR said that it is completely wrong to describe the case of threatening a girl child by Mohammad Zubair on Twitter as a ‘non-cognizable offence’ of the Delhi Police. This stand of Delhi Police shows the casual attitude of the authorities. NCPCR has demanded from the High Court that Delhi Police should be ordered to conduct a thorough investigation in this matter and submit its report soon. The High Court will next hear the matter on December 7.

According to a PTI report, Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair in August last year. In this FIR registered on the orders of NCPCR, there was an allegation against Zubair for allegedly threatening a girl on Twitter. The child commission complaint cited a photograph of a girl child and her father, which was tweeted by Zubair after a fight with the minor girl’s father on an online platform.

NCPCR says that it was clear in the status report given by Delhi Police in May that Zubair is trying to avoid investigation in this case and is not even cooperating with the police. In the affidavit filed in the High Court, the Commission said, “This is clearing the malicious intent of the petitioner (Zubair) to suppress the facts, which is causing serious delay in the investigation of the matter.”

At the same time, the contention on behalf of Delhi Police that no cognizable offense is made out against the petitioner is also completely wrong and showing the careless attitude of the police towards the matter.

The organization working for child rights says that this has made the identity of the child public, who can become a threat to her. Also, it can become a reason for her harassment on social media. NCPCR said, comments were made on the photo of the minor girl, including those which come under the purview of sexual harassment. These have clearly violated several sections of the POCSO Act, IT Act and IPC.

The NCPCR told the High Court that Zubair neither deleted his tweet nor complained to the authorities about Twitter users who were making obscene comments. The affidavit said that keeping in view the violations committed against the minor girl and the information given by the Delhi Police in its status report dated May 14, the NCPCR urges the court to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that the Order to be completed on priority.
