The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a major update that will make Aadhaar services more convenient for millions of users across the country. In a recent post on X, UIDAI revealed that soon people will be able to update their mobile number in Aadhaar directly from home, using OTP verification and Face Authentication—eliminating the need to visit Aadhaar Enrolment Centres and wait in long queues.
This feature, expected to roll out in phases, is currently being offered to early adopters for testing through the Aadhaar app. Users can download the updated app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and share their feedback at feedback.app@uidai.net.in.
Aadhaar Mobile Update at Home: What the New Feature Offers
According to UIDAI, the new system will enable users to update their mobile numbers seamlessly using two-factor verification:
- OTP Authentication
- Facial Recognition-Based Authentication
This will ensure higher security while making the process faster and user-friendly. The feature is part of UIDAI’s ongoing effort to strengthen digital identity services and make Aadhaar more accessible.
No More Visits to Aadhaar Centres
Currently, updating a mobile number requires physically visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. This often involves:
- Filling forms
- Long waiting queues
- Submitting biometrics
- Paying a service fee
The upcoming feature aims to fix these challenges by offering remote authentication, saving time and effort for crores of citizens.
Why Mobile Number in Aadhaar Matters
A linked and updated mobile number is essential for:
- Aadhaar OTP authentication
- Banking and UPI verification
- DigiLocker and government schemes
- Online KYC processes
- PAN-Aadhaar linking
- Passport and utility services
The new home-update feature is likely to benefit senior citizens, working professionals, students, and individuals living in remote areas.
UIDAI Encourages Early Testing
UIDAI has invited users to test the upgraded Aadhaar app and share their experiences. This feedback will help refine the final rollout.
The update marks another step toward a more digital, efficient, and accessible identity system under the initiative “Mera Aadhaar, Meri Pehchaan.”
More details are expected soon as UIDAI prepares for the official nationwide rollout
