Afghanistan territory should not be used for terrorist activities: India at UN

India has expressed hope that Afghanistan should not be used for terrorist activities, especially for the bases, training or financing of terrorists and organizations declared by the United Nations Security Council.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj on Wednesday said, “As Afghanistan’s immediate neighbor and long-term partner, and given our strong historical and civilizational ties with the Afghan people, it is important to ensure the return of peace and stability to the country.”

India has a direct interest

In the Security Council regarding the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Kamboj said that the Security Council Resolution 2593 of August 2021 expresses the collective view of the international community, which was accepted under the presidency of the United Nations Security Council of India.

According to the resolution, we expect that Afghanistan should not be used for terrorist activities, especially for the bases, training or financing of terrorists and organizations designated by the United Nations Security Council…”

He said that the proposal also includes taking action against drug trafficking.

India also expressed concern over increasing efforts to exclude women from public life in Afghanistan, and called for the future of Afghanistan to include women and minorities and to fully respect their rights. The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and head of UNAMA told the Council, “Afghanistan under the Taliban remains the most repressive country in the world in terms of women’s rights…”
