Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader and former Defense Minister AK Antony, joined the BJP on Thursday (April 6). Anil Antony, former convenor of the social media team of Kerala Congress, joined BJP in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal, V Muraleedharan, Kerala BJP President K Surendran in Delhi.
During this, Anil Antony said that as an Indian youth, I feel that it is my responsibility and duty to contribute to the Prime Minister’s vision of nation building and national unity. Anil Antony left the Congress in the month of January last after the controversy over the 2002 Gujarat riots and the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Many of the Congress leaders believe that their duty is to work for a particular family but I believe that my duty is to work for the people. PM Narendra Modi has a clear vision to make India a developed country in the next 25 years,” Anil Antony said soon after joining the BJP.
“This is not about personalities, this is about difference of opinion and ideas. I strongly believe that I have taken the right step. My respect for my father will remain the same,” Antony said.
Congress criticized the statement on the documentary
Describing this documentary as a dangerous trend over the views of Indian institutions, he said that this would affect the sovereignty of the country. He called the BBC documentary biased against India. After this reaction, he was facing criticism from within the Congress.
AK Antony was also a Union Minister and CM
After this he resigned from all his posts in the party. Anil Antony’s father AK Antony was the Union Defense Minister in the Congress government. Apart from this, he has also been the Chief Minister of Kerala. AK Antony’s name has been counted among the big leaders.
Before leaving the party, Anil Antony used to run the social media cell of the Congress in Kerala. Welcoming him to BJP, BJP leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Anil Antony is a multifaceted personality. I was very impressed when I saw the credentials of Anil Antony. His views are similar to those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are sure that he will continue to play a very active role and help increase the footprint of BJP in South India.
