Amit Shah to begin his three-days visit to J&K today

Union home minister Amit Shah is going to begin his three-days visit to J&K today. This is Amit Shah’s maiden visit to union territory after the abrogation of Article 370 which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.

Massive security arrangements have been put in place in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of this visit. Drones, snipers and additional companies of CRPF and BSF have been called to Srinagar.

Shah will arrive first in Srinagar on Saturday accompanied by the Home Secretary A.K. Bhalla, other senior officials of the Home Ministry, heads of most of the Central Armed Forces (CAPFs) and the intelligence agencies including the IB.

During hid three-days visit Shah will also lay foundation stones of two new Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) for Udhampur and Handwara, after which he will flag off the first Srinagar-Sharjah district flight and address a mega public rally in Jammu city.

According to sources, Shah will also use the visit to pay homage to martyrs of security forces and civilians killed in terror attacks recently. “He is likely to visit the families of Makhan Lal Bindroo, a Sikh teacher and a Muslim civilian, all killed by militants recently,” a Jammu and Kashmir administration source said.

The Union minister, whose visit is part of the Centre’s continuing outreach campaign, is also expected to review the implementation of development schemes in the region. Last month, he held a review meeting on J&K with lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and senior security officials in the national capital.

More importantly, Shah is likely to visit Lethpora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir and pay homage to the 40 CRPF martyrs killed in a terror attack in February 2019.

According to an official, there could be last minute changes to the programme. “Several back-up plans have been made to ensure it is a smooth process,” they said.
