Andhra Pradesh: 3 dead, 30 missing after flash flood in Kadapa

At least three people were killed and 30 others are missing in flash floods in Andhra Pradesh Kadapa district on Friday. According to the information received, there was sudden flood in many villages after the dam broke due to overflow of Cheyyeru river. Swami Anand Temple in Nandalur has also been submerged due to the increased water level. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Kartik Purnima, some devotees who were worshiping at the Shiva temple were also caught in the flash floods.

Due to the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, many states including Andhra Pradesh have been receiving continuous rain for the past several days. Rivers are in spate, causing sudden and severe floods in Chittoor and Kadapa over the years. Due to heavy rains, the small river Cheyyeru in Kadapa flooded some villages on the banks. The work of evacuating some people trapped in the strong current of water is going on, while in Rajanpet some people were washed away by the strong current.

According to media reports, three bodies have been recovered near Nandaluru while the search for others is on. After the incident, teams of National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are engaged in rescue and relief work. At the same time, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke on a video conference with the district magistrates of the rain-affected districts and directed to take relief and rescue measures.
