Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh has once again written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), informing the agency that he has approached the court to ensure the money laundering probe against him is “aboveboard and within the ambit of the procedure established by law”.
In a letter to the central probe agency, Deshmukh said, “The ongoing investigation/searches against me are not transparent. The Department is hell-bent on creating a case against me…”
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has been summoned to appear before the ED on Monday. Deshmukh has been called by the ED three times in this case. He ignored two previous summonses from the agency.
Deshmukh in his letter has asked the ED to defer the summons for a few days and await the outcome of the case filed by him in the court. “I am expecting the listing and hearing of the petition in the next few days,” he said.
He had moved the Supreme Court on Sunday seeking protection from any coercive action in the case.
The ED has also summoned Deshmukh’s son Hrishikesh on July 6 in the same case.
On June 25, the ED had raided Deshmukh’s residences in Nagpur and Mumbai. Raids were conducted at five other places.
