Arvind Kejriwal: After days of battling, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received insulin on Tuesday, April 23, according to the Aam Aadmi Party.

BJP and Jail Administration Respond

“Finally, the BJP and its jail administration came to their senses and gave INSULIN to CM Arvind Kejriwal in jail. CM Kejriwal's sugar level had reached 320. This has been possible only due to the blessings of Lord Hanuman and the struggle of the people of Delhi. We have succeeded in delivering insulin to our Chief Minister,” the AAP said in a post on X

Low-Dose Insulin Administered to Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal, however, received a "low dose" of insulin, according to Tihar jail officials, following a jump in his blood sugar. Around 7 o'clock at night, his blood sugar level was discovered to be 217. The physicians at Tihar who were attending to him then made the decision to administer insulin, an official informed news agency PTI.

AIIMS Doctors Advise Low-Dose Insulin

"Kejriwal was given two units of low dose insulin on Monday evening on the advice of AIIMS doctors", the Tihar official said. “Yesterday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was administered low-dose insulin at Tihar Jail. His sugar levels were 217 yesterday. AIIMS team had said he can be administered low-dose insulin when the level crosses 200,” news agency ANI quoted a Tihar Jail official as saying.

AIIMS Guidance on Insulin Administration

He stated that Tihar's doctors had been informed by AIIMS specialists in a video conference with the chief minister on April 20 that insulin might be administered to him if his blood sugar level exceeded a specific threshold. The event transpired just one day after a Delhi court ordered the AIIMS to set up a medical board to evaluate Arvind Kejriwal in order to ascertain whether or not he requires insulin to regulate his blood sugar levels. The court further declared that the food prepared at home by the AAP national convenor differs from the diet plan prescribed by his physician.

Court Denies Kejriwal's Request for Video Consultation

The order was issued by special judge Kaveri Baweja for CBI and ED cases, who turned down Arvind Kejriwal's request for a video consultation with his doctor in front of his wife Sunita Kejriwal. Delhi health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday said, "Arvind Kejriwal is in Tihar jail for about 22 days. He has been saying for many days that his sugar level is increasing and there is no diabetes specialist in the jail. He has been demanding insulin. Today, the court's decision made it clear that there is no diabetes specialist in Tihar jail."

Kejriwal's Demands for Insulin Validated by Court Decision

"This is a welcome step and has proved that whatever he was saying was true," he said. According to his Cabinet colleague Atishi, the court decision demonstrates that Kejriwal was not given the proper medical treatment while incarcerated in Tihar.

Since insulin is the only option available to control his blood sugar levels, Arvind Kejriwal has been requesting it nonstop for the past ten days, according to Atishi. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in relation to a money-laundering investigation involving the Delhi government's since-canceled excise policy. Since April 1, he has been detained at the Tihar jail.

In the meantime, the AAP leader's appeal against the ED's summonses to him has been scheduled for consideration by the Delhi High Court for May 15.
