Arvind Kejriwal says Congress copied AAP’s agenda in Karnataka polls

Kejriwal

Aam Admi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal told his party today that Congress copied AAP’s agenda in Karnataka. He was addressing the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit on the sidelines of the UP municipal elections.

Kejriwal claimed that AAP has changed the country’s political discourse. ‘Earlier, Congress and BJP were asking for votes on caste and religious lines. But today, both parties are offering free electricity, free ration and other benefits like AAP. ‘Kejriwal said.

In the recently held elections in Karnataka, Congress won 135 seats and formed the government. The runner-up is the BJP which got 65 seats. AAP, which contested in 205 seats out of 224, drew a blank.

‘UP wants change’

Kejriwal congratulated his Uttar Pradesh unit for winning a few seats in the UP local body elections. He said that these results have shown that the people of Uttar Pradesh want change. Kejriwal encouraged the UP unit to strengthen the party in the state so that AAP could contest all the seats in the next Vidhan Sabha elections.

All the seats that AAP has won in UP are dominated by Muslims. The BJP has also won quite a few seats in Muslim-majority areas. Most notably, an NDA partner party has won in Rampur which is considered to be the stronghold of Samajwadi Party, BJP’s principal rival in Uttar Pradesh.

Growth of AAP

Aam Admi Party grew out of Delhi and has been ruling Delhi for eight years now. It promises free electricity to voters. AAP has extended other benefits to its voter base, such as free ration, free rides to women in buses and a highly subsidized health scheme.

In 2022, AAP won the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, largely based on freebies, and is expanding quickly in states where Congress is in decline.
