Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Singh has once again urged people to follow covid-19 norms incluidng social distancing and wearing masks as he highlighted that the at least six states are reporting a spike in the cases of the coronavirus disease.
“India has the lowest fatality rate and now the vaccine is here but this is not the time to be negligent regarding covid appropriate behaviour. Cases are rising in sic states due to people’s carelessness. I urge all to abide by social distancing and wear masks,” the Health Minister told ANI.
The minister’s came after India has reported surge in the number of cases for one month now. For several states including Maharashtra and Kerala, the number of cases have been increasing at an alarming rate. Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are some other states to contribute to the spike. On Saturday, the country recorded over 24k cases, highest this year.
Maharashtra saw record breaking spike as it reported 15,817 cases, breaching the 15,000 daily case count for the first time in five months. Kerala, on the other hand, reported 1,780 new cases taking the overall infection to 1,087,443.
The Central government has sent special teams to the six states and UTs that have shown high surge in number of cases. “Recently, the Centre rushed high-level Public Health teams to Maharashtra and Punjab to assist in COVID-19 control and containment measures in view of the recent spike in cases in these States,” the ministry added.
