In yet another provocative statement, Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir has reignited tensions by accusing India of involvement in the recent Waziristan attack and vowing continued political, moral, and diplomatic support for terrorism-driven insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
During a military address in Islamabad on Friday, Munir claimed without evidence that Indian agencies were involved in stoking unrest in Waziristan. He further reiterated Pakistan's support for what he termed the "freedom struggle" in Kashmir—language long used as a cover for sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
India Hits Back at 'Tired Propaganda'
Indian government sources swiftly condemned Munir’s remarks, calling them “factually baseless and diplomatically irresponsible.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that such repeated statements only reaffirm Pakistan’s status as a "safe haven for terrorists" and highlight its unwillingness to abandon its policy of proxy war.
“The statements made by General Munir are not only divorced from ground realities but also expose Pakistan’s obsession with India and its failure to address domestic terror,” an MEA official told media.
Global Silence on State-Sponsored Terror?
Security analysts have pointed out that Pakistan’s continued public endorsement of the Kashmir insurgency, even in the wake of FATF monitoring and global pressure to curb terror financing, reflects a deeply entrenched military-diplomatic nexus in the country.
“Munir’s statements are not for India—they are to deflect blame from his own failures in handling internal insurgency and the military’s declining credibility in Pakistan,” said a former Indian Army official.
Background: Terror Brews at Home, Blame Lies Abroad
The remarks come at a time when Pakistan is facing mounting internal instability, especially in regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The Waziristan region, recently hit by a deadly terror attack that killed several soldiers, remains a hotspot for TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) operations. Analysts see Munir’s India-centric blame game as an attempt to shift focus from the growing internal threat and eroding public trust in the military.
India has consistently maintained that Jammu & Kashmir is an internal matter and has taken significant steps to ensure peace and development in the region. With Pakistan’s economy in shambles and global patience wearing thin, statements like Munir's only further isolate Islamabad on the world stage.
