Assam-Mizoram dispute: Bomb blast in Hailakandi school, tension escalates again on the border of both the state

Tension escalated again on Saturday over the Assam-Mizoram border dispute. Tension has escalated after a bomb blast at a school in Assam’s bordering Hailakandi district. The school wall was damaged in the blast, no one was injured.

According to Hailakandi SP Gaurav Upadhyay, the blast in the school has been confirmed. Senior officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation. This incident of bomb blast took place in Gutguti of Hailakandi district. After this incident, the tension between the two states seems to be increasing again. A wall of this former primary school was damaged due to the blast. Thankfully no one got hit by it. This school is located on the border of Assam and Mizoram. At present it was closed due to the Corona crisis and no one was there during the night time blast.

Significantly, in the past, there was a violent conflict between the two states over the border dispute. Six policemen of Assam Police were killed in this. Mizoram then blocked the Assam border. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had discussed the border dispute during his meeting with PM Modi in Delhi. Vehicular movement has resumed between the two states from August 9.
