At least 8 dead in stone quarry collapse in Mizoram

As many as eight bodies were recovered morning, with four still missing on Tuesday morning following the collapse of a stone quarry in south Mizoram's Hnahthial district, some 160 kilometres from the state's capital Aizawl.

Around 2.40 pm, while workers employed by the ABCI Infrastructure Private Limited were working in the quarry, Maudarh village experienced a collapse.

Lalhriatpuia, the Additional Secretary of Mizoram's Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, estimated that there were about 15 people present when the quarry collapsed.

According to reports from the district, "No bodies were recovered until 8 p.m.," he said, adding that the people's crude quarrying technique was to blame.
