Ayodhya Ram Mandir: According to a party statement released on Wednesday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with other prominent figures such as former President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, will not be present for the Ram Temple consecration ceremony scheduled for January 22 in Ayodhya.

Leaders Decline Invitation to Ayodhya Ceremony

The message, which was shared on its official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, referred to the massive consecration ceremony as a "RSS/BJP event". Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge had all been invited to the Ayodhya ceremony on January 22.

But the ancient party claimed that the Ayodhya temple has long been used as a political prop by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). "Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in our country. Religion is a personal matter. But the RSS/BJP have long made a political project of the temple in Ayodhya. The inauguration of the incomplete temple by the leaders of the BJP and the RSS has been obviously brought forward for electoral gain," the statement said.

VHP Responds to Congress

In response to the Congress's decision to skip the major inauguration ceremony, the Vishva Hindu Parisad (VHP) declared that it is the grand old party's prerogative to decline to attend Ram Lalla's event. Sources claim that the right-wing group stated, "We have sent the invitation; it is okay if they don't want to come."

On January 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, and more than 6,000 guests—celebrities, businesspeople, and others—are anticipated to attend the 'Pran Pratistha' ceremony marking the official opening of the Ram temple at Ayodhya.
