Bank Holiday September 2023: During September, banks will remain closed for a total of 16 days due to national and regional holidays. In certain states, the closures are attributed to occasions such as Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji's anniversary, and Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi. If you intend to visit a bank branch in September, it's advisable to inquire about the bank's holiday timetable to prevent any inconveniences.
Throughout the month, net-banking services and ATMs will continue to operate without interruption across the country. It's important to note that regional holidays are determined by the respective state governments and are not listed on the RBI's official website.

RBI regulates Holidays
Functioning as the authoritative body for banking regulations in India, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holds the responsibility of formulating the annual bank holiday calendar. Bank holidays in India encompass obligatory holidays designated by the banking sector itself, alongside supplementary holidays dedicated to festivals and notable events as approved by individual states. In accordance with RBI directives, both public sector and private sector banks observe non-working days on Sundays, as well as on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
The RBI categorizes holidays into three distinct groups: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks' Closing of Accounts. As outlined in the Reserve Bank's schedule, September will have a total of 11 bank holidays, excluding weekends.
It should also be emphasized that September 30 has been designated as the ultimate deadline for exchanging or depositing the withdrawn Rs 2,000 banknotes, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India. Notwithstanding this deadline, these banknotes will continue to retain their status as valid currency even after September 30.
