Bengaluru Floods: Tech Park Giant Confesses To Have Encroached On Storm Water Drain

Bengaluru Floods: A storm water drain was allegedly obstructed by a tech park in east Bengaluru, but Purvankara, the developer of the nearby Purva Parkridge, was given the blame. One of the 15 well-known companies accused of encroaching on storm water drains and causing the severe flooding that struck portions of the city last week is the Bagmane World Technology Centre, created by the renowned developer Bagmane Group. In addition, the city body, which carried out a second examination there on Wednesday, also found guilty two villas in the nearby extremely wealthy Puravankara Purvaridge neighbourhood.

The Bagmane World Technology Centre was discovered to have encroached on the storm water drain by almost 2.4 metres. It is situated along the IT corridor in east Bengaluru, a region that was severely affected by the floods.

“We only did that to stop water from Mahadevapura Lake from backing up. If we hadn’t done that, Bagmane would have been submerged. The Puravankara Purvaridge Villas are mostly at fault here. The storm water drain is now covered “Added he.

What was the matter?

Each of the 149 villas at Puravankara Purva Park Ridge has three or four bedrooms. Two of these homes, which are directly across from the tech park’s perimeter wall, were discovered to have a 2.5 metre encroachment on the drains.

After conducting an inspection last month, the civic organisation BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) found the encroachment. However, the residents proceeded to court, claiming that the survey was conducted without their knowledge and disputing claims of encroachment.

On Wednesday, the representatives of the civic authority visited the villa once more and conducted an inspection in front of the inhabitants. They discovered that the Purvankara builder had erected the houses on top of the storm drain illegally. Each of the 149 villas at Puravankara Purva Park Ridge has three or four bedrooms.
