Big Boost for Patna! India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Challenge Rajdhani Express

The train is expected to begin operations in early 2026, subject to trial run approvals. Most technical formalities have already been completed, and only final clearances remain.

Patna residents are set to receive a major rail connectivity upgrade as India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is likely to be introduced on the Patna–New Delhi route. The upcoming high-speed sleeper train will compete directly with Rajdhani Express and Sampoorna Kranti Express, offering faster travel time, modern amenities and competitive fares.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Likely to Launch in Early 2026

Railway officials have confirmed that preparations for the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express are in the final stage. The train is expected to begin operations in early 2026, subject to trial run approvals. Most technical formalities have already been completed, and only final clearances remain.

Faster Travel on Patna–Delhi Route

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is proposed to run between Patna Junction and New Delhi, with scheduled halts at DDU Junction (Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction), Prayagraj and Kanpur Central. According to railway sources, the train may reach Delhi in less time than Tejas Rajdhani Express, significantly reducing overnight travel duration.

Premium Sleeper Facilities for Night यात्रियों

Designed for long-distance overnight journeys, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will feature modern sleeper coaches, advanced suspension systems, enhanced safety measures, comfortable berths and state-of-the-art passenger amenities. The train aims to provide a smoother, faster and more comfortable travel experience compared to conventional sleeper trains.

Ticket Fare Discussion in Final Stage

Indian Railways is currently finalising the fare structure. Sources indicate that ticket prices may be 20–25% higher than Sampoorna Kranti Express, while remaining similar to or slightly higher than Rajdhani Express fares. Given its premium features, the train is expected to be placed in a premium sleeper category, similar to Tejas services.

New Era of High-Speed Sleeper Rail Travel

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express on the Patna–Delhi route is expected to transform long-distance rail travel, offering passengers speed, comfort and advanced technology under one roof. Once launched, it will mark a significant milestone in India’s railway modernisation journey.
