Bihar BJP MLA vandalises mic during heated argument, later alleges it was ‘defective and came off on its own’

It was an eventful day at the Bihar Assembly Session on Tuesday. Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary had to adjourn the proceedings before the estimated time after a BJP MLA put an unruly behaviour on display. A video of the Lakhendra Raushan has gone viral in which he is seen vandalising a microphone.

BJP MLA vandalises microphone during Bihar Assembly Session

A video of BJP MLA Lakhdendra Raushan has gone viral which shows him vandalising the microphone during his spat with Legislators of the CPI(ML)-Liberation.

However, the BJP leader, while talking-to media, said that the microphone was defective and came off on its own when he tried to adjust it for speaking.

Raushan had gotten into an argument with senior CPI(ML)-L MLA Satya Dev Ram who stood against Lakhendra Raushan’s speech at his seat during the question hour. With nearly ten minutes left for the Question Hour, a ruckus was created which led to stop the proceedings. Satya Dev Ram had risen in his chair when Mr Raushan was speaking.

CPI(ML)-L claims BJP leader tore the mike ‘in irritation’

CPI(ML)-L leader Satya Dev Ram claimed that the BJP leader broke the mike in irritation. “The Speaker had called out the name of another member when Mr Raushan tore away the microphone in irritation. I merely stood up to point out the unruly behaviour. He hurled abuses towards me”, alleged Satya Dev Ram.

Parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary earlier sought Roshan’s apology for the misconduct. “Else, we would have to move a proposal for action. Whatever happened and everyone saw… was not only indecent but totally against the parliamentary decorum. Such actions should not be allowed in the House. People may have objections to many things, but inside the House, there is a system to present one’s views,” said the minister.

The speaker asked the BJP leader to apologise but Opposition leader Vijay Kumar Sinha defended him, saying Raushan became provocative after derogatory statements made by the treasury bench.

Sinha deafened the BJP leader by saying, “If action has to be taken, why has there been no action on the report of the Opposition‘s attack on the Chair’s pedestal during the passage of Bihar Special Armed Police Bill, 2021.”
