Sharad Pawar: Political battle lines in the opposition camp seem to have been redrawn at the moment. NCP Chief Sharad Pawar’s utterances regarding the Adani controversy and demand for JPC has evoked sharp response from the Congress party. However, the BJP was quick to defend Sharad Pawar in its rejoinder.
In a sharp riposte on its alliance partner, Congress party spokesperson Alka Lamba called Pawar “greedy” and shared a photo showing him in the company of industrialist Gautam Adani.
“Scared – greedy people are today singing praises to dictatorial power because of their personal interests,” said Alka Lamba on Twitter. She went on to loftily claim that “Rahul Gandhi alone is fighting the battle of the people of the country – against capitalist thieves and those protecting the thieves.”
BJP quick to defend Pawar
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to defend Pawar as was evident by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister’s response to the Congress leader. He said: “Politics will come and go but this Tweet by a Congress leader, on their long-standing ally of 35 years and one of India’s senior-most political leaders and a four-time CM of Maharashtra is appalling. Rahul Gandhi is perverting India’s political culture,” said the deputy chief minister.
“I am shocked. Is this Congress’ official position? Alka Lamba has made an unbelievable attack on Sharad Pawar ji. She has described him as greedy & a coward. As a Maharashtrian I am pretty flabbergasted,” said the BJP’s official spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.
Rahul questions PM Modi again
Meanwhile, in another development, Rahul Gandhi in his first press conference since being convicted in a defamation case, claimed that there are deep ties between PM Modi and Gautam Adani.
He also asked, “There is a question, Rs 20,000 crore have suddenly arrived in Mr Adani’s shell companies, where has this money come from? Some of these companies are defence companies. Whose money is being spent on our drone and missile development? Why is the defence ministry not asking this question?”
While Gandhi did not openly disclose the source of this information, his charges coincided with a recent Financial Times report that analysed India’s foreign direct investment (FDI) remittance data and reported that ‘almost half of all foreign direct investment into the Adani group in recent years came from offshore entities linked to his family.’
